New M16 generation from binder

The areas of application for M16 circular connectors range from heavy machinery such as construction cranes and excavators to high-precision laboratory technology. They must ensure reliable connections even under extreme conditions such as cold, dirt and dust. Binder has developed a new generation of overmolded M16 connectors that meet these requirements.

When redesigning the M16 connectors, the focus was on industrial applications such as mechanical engineering, camera systems and pressure sensors. These require high electrical reliability and a robust connector system.

"Crane and excavator applications are a good example: Fixed plug connections are essential here. Particularly in critical moments, such as when lifting heavy loads, they must fit securely and be easy to operate," explains Sebastian Ader, Product Manager at Binder.

The new triangular design improves the handling of the connectors. The connectors can be securely plugged, unplugged and locked at any time.

The overmoulded M16 connectors meet high requirements in terms of shock resistance, vibration tolerance and tightness. Their robust design ensures a reliable connection under extreme temperatures as well as in the presence of dirt or moisture.

New modular system for greater efficiency

binder has redesigned the new generation from the ground up. While previous versions contained many existing individual parts, the new design is based on a modular system. This means that shielded and unshielded variants can be manufactured with just a few additional components, making production more efficient and cost-effective.

The development of the new M16 connector took into account both the M16 standard (DIN EN 61076-2-106) and the strict requirements of the AISG standard (8-pin shielded version). Improvements to the sealing system solve previous compatibility problems and ensure optimum tightness in accordance with IP68. The new generation is also lead-free and complies with the EU RoHS2 Directive (2011/65/EU, 2015/863/EU).
